[00:10.03]Student: It's about the essay contest the one in the English department. [00:13.72]Mine is almost ready, but I just want to check. [00:16.71]You're the right person to give it to.

[00:28.02]Professor Now, this essay had to have originally been done as a class assignment, and you need a statement to that effect from your professor. [00:37.01]Do you have that?
[00:38.16]Student: Well, I've actually rewritten this quite a bit, but originally it did start off as a paper for professor Walker.
[00:48.03]What's the essay about? [00:49.55]Don't worry. I don't have anything to do with the judging. [00:53.27]I just push the papers in their direction. [00:55.62]It's just the professor Walker and our colleagues. [00:58.38]We teach different sections of the same classes. [01:00.83]So I'm always interested in what are students are doing.
[01:03.72]Student: It's about the three Bronte sisters, Emily Ann and Charlotte, and how they influenced each other. [01:11.06]I've always loved 19th century English novels, especially theirs. [01:15.44]Anyway, the essay, it was about similarities between their books with some parallel passages to show how it's hard to distinguish them. [01:23.34]It's almost like they helped each other write the books.

[01:27.32]Student: But then for the contest, I added some stuff for my own family, my sister and I have a close relationship. [01:33.26]So I like compare the journals we wrote when we were in high school. [01:37.54]So now it's more like a memoir, but with the other stuff too.
[01:41.57]Professor I see. It’s part of the rules that it was created a written for a specific class. [01:48.49]I don't know about the revisions. [01:50.42]They'll be way around it. [01:51.54]We'll figure something out. [01:52.77]But at any rate, we do require documentation from the professor.

[01:57.09]Professor By the way, since you're interested in the English novel. [02:00.24]I'm teaching a class next semester. [02:02.38]It's not exactly the same time period, it's a little later. [02:05.75]Thomas Hardy Conrad, but important work and interesting. [02:09.56]You should consider taking it.
[02:11.41]Student: I'm actually a journalism student. [02:14.16]I was doing a humanities requirement with that other course. [02:16.45] I did enjoy it and I think I wrote a good paper. [02:19.93]I'll probably concentrate on journalism courses next semester. [02:23.76]It does sound interesting, though.
